Optimal Computational Technique for the Design of Fasteners & Power Screws

This paper on "Optimal Computational Technique for the Design of Fasteners & Power Screws" was presented at the NAFEMS World Congress on Design, Simulation & Optimisation: Reliability & Applicability of Computational Methods - 9-11 April 1997, Stuttgart, Germany.

Abstract

The conventional ways of designing fasteners and power screws were reviewed. The use of recent micro-computers in eliminating manual repetitive tasks was highlighted. The room for further drastic cut in the time taken to complete a specific task was emphasized. A new optimal computational technique far the design of fasteners and power screws, incorporating some engineering standards and making use of the already existing large software packages, was developed. The flow chart of the program, when drawn, showed the simplicity of the technique. Finally, sample problems were solved, once by the conventional manual way and the other by the new technique, and when both results were compared, the latter proved to be faster, more efficient, more accurate and much easier to handle.
